The Arab Community Conference in the United Kingdom congratulates the Palestinian Ambassador on the official inauguration of the Embassy of the State of Palestine
A delegation from the Arab Community Conference in the United Kingdom carried messages of solidarity and support to the Embassy of the State of Palestine during its first visit to the premises following the official inauguration of the embassy in the United Kingdom.
The delegation congratulated His Excellency the Palestinian Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr Husam Zomlot, on the inauguration, describing the UK’s formal recognition of the State of Palestine as the result, first and foremost, of the Palestinian people’s resilience and struggle. It also highlighted the support of the Arab community in the UK and international supporters of the Palestinian cause, as well as the diplomatic efforts and personal engagement of Ambassador Zomlot in the British political arena and within parliamentary circles.
The delegation further noted that the shift in the UK’s official position reflects a broader change in British public opinion, driven by widespread demonstrations and solidarity movements among British citizens and supporters of Palestine. It stated that this public pressure has compelled decision-makers to listen more closely to public sentiment. The delegation also praised the ambassador’s media engagement and intensive activity over the past two years of the war, stating that he had successfully and professionally engaged with major British media institutions and presented the Palestinian narrative to the British public, challenging what it described as the Israeli narrative.
In remarks delivered on behalf of the visiting delegation, Mohammad Amin, Editor-in-Chief of Arab London and member of the Arab Community Conference in the UK, stated that the visit carried a message of solidarity with the Palestinian cause and also served as a congratulatory visit to Ambassador Dr Husam Zomlot on what he described as a significant achievement in the country of the Balfour Declaration. He described the development as an important step in correcting a historical mistake committed by Britain, reaffirming the Arab community’s continued support for the Palestinian cause and the readiness of all conference members to contribute their expertise in service of Palestine and its people. He also praised Ambassador Zomlot’s role in engaging with the Arab community and his participation in the conference’s activities, as well as his efforts to present the Palestinian narrative across official and public platforms.
For his part, Ambassador Dr Husam Zomlot expressed his appreciation for the delegation’s visit. He engaged in an extended discussion with the delegation, answering questions and sharing his views on developments related to the Palestinian cause, as well as the role of the Arab community in the UK in supporting Palestinian rights through organised, informed, and impactful engagement.
Zomlot expressed his great pleasure at meeting the delegation of the Arab Community Conference, praising the conference’s sincere commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and its community initiatives. He emphasised the importance of the role played by British Arabs in influencing political discourse in support of Palestine, describing the “battle of narrative in the West” as a central front. He commended the role of the Arab community and called for greater engagement of young Arabs in political activity and British political parties to influence policy from within in support of Palestine and other Arab causes.
The meeting was characterised by a warm and positive atmosphere. The delegation comprised a distinguished group of Arab lawyers, activists, and influencers from various nationalities and professional backgrounds. The conference delegation presented a commemorative gift to the ambassador, while Ambassador Zomlot presented Palestinian keffiyehs to all members of the delegation in a symbolic gesture reflecting Palestinian national identity and appreciation for the solidarity visit. The delegation also discussed a number of ideas with the ambassador and invited him to participate in the second edition of the conference scheduled for June.
The Arab Community Conference in the United Kingdom reaffirmed its pride in the meeting, stressing its continued commitment to supporting the Palestinian cause and strengthening cooperation with the Embassy of the State of Palestine, in a manner that serves the Arab community and reflects unity of purpose and position.
The Arab Community Conference in the United Kingdom was established in June 2023 by a group of Arab figures in the UK. Its first session was held in June last year with significant participation from the Arab community, diplomats, and Arab and international activists. The conference has been active throughout the war, engaging in speeches, correspondence, and discussions with the British Prime Minister and members of Parliament, aiming to pressure the UK government to help end the war, change its position of support for Israel, and call for justice for the Palestinian people and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
