Ambassador of Iraq Extends Strong Support for the Arab Community Conference and Praises Arab London

London – Arab London
The Iraqi Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Dr. Saleh Al-Tamimi, received a high-level delegation from the Arab Community Conference at the Iraqi Embassy in London on Friday afternoon, 15 May 2026. The delegation included representatives from various Arab communities across Britain. During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Tamimi reaffirmed Iraq’s and the embassy’s support for the Arab community in the UK and for the activities undertaken in service of Arab causes. He also praised efforts aimed at uniting the Arab community in Britain under one umbrella.
Ambassador Al-Tamimi and members of the Iraqi embassy staff were briefed on the work and initiatives of the Arab Community Conference in Britain. Sabah Al-Mukhtar, Honorary President of the conference and Chairman of the Arab Lawyers Association in Britain, delivered a concise overview of the conference’s journey since its establishment in mid-2023 up to the present day.
Ambassador Al-Tamimi also praised the Arab London platform, describing the launch of the conference in London several years ago as a significant achievement for the platform and a noteworthy accomplishment deserving recognition. He further highlighted the importance of the media work carried out by the platform in serving the Arab community, raising awareness, and guiding community members on issues and matters relevant to their lives.
The ambassador discussed with representatives of the Arab community several challenges facing Arabs in Britain, particularly those concerning second-generation Arabs living in the diaspora, as well as challenges affecting Arab families more broadly.
Ambassador Al-Tamimi expressed his full support for the conference’s activities and events. In response, representatives of the Arab Community Conference honoured the ambassador by presenting him with a commemorative shield on the occasion, stating that the gesture also extended to the Iraqi Embassy and to Iraq itself, which they described as a homeland for all Arabs wherever they may be.
The Arab Community Conference was established in June 2023 following an initiative launched by the Arab London platform. It quickly brought together representatives from various Arab communities across Britain. Although the conference held its first official session in the summer of 2025, organisers stress that it remains in continuous session in order to follow and address issues concerning British Arabs.
During the Israeli war on Gaza, the conference addressed the British Prime Minister on three separate occasions, calling for a firmer British stance towards Israeli attacks. On all three occasions, the Prime Minister responded to the conference’s letters. While the British government had initially refused to call for a ceasefire, subsequent correspondence later reflected support for a ceasefire and opposition to Israeli attacks targeting civilians in the Gaza Strip.
