The Arab Community Conference in the United Kingdom honours the Ambassador of Lebanon in London and launches a series of meetings with Arab ambassadors
The Arab Community in the United Kingdom honoured the Lebanese Ambassador to London, Farah Berri, during an expanded meeting held at the embassy headquarters in central London on Monday afternoon.
The delegation representing the Arab Community Conference expressed its solidarity with Lebanon in the face of the threats it is currently facing. During the visit, the delegation presented a commemorative shield to the Lebanese Ambassador at a special reception held at the embassy in London.
The Ambassador listened to a detailed presentation on the activities and initiatives carried out by the conference, its members, and the institutions operating under its umbrella. She also received a general briefing on the situation of the Arab community in the United Kingdom, including Lebanese nationals.
Ambassador Berri expressed her deep appreciation for the visit and for the efforts of the Arab community. She also praised the “Arab London” platform, describing it as a unifying umbrella for the Arab community in the United Kingdom, and the platform that launched the initiative to establish the Arab Community Conference.
The visit forms part of a series of meetings initiated by the Arab Community Conference with Arab ambassadors in London. A meeting was previously held with the Sudanese Ambassador, Abubakr Al-Siddiq Al-Amin, and further meetings with other Arab ambassadors are expected in the coming days.
Mohammad Amin, Editor-in-Chief of Arab London, thanked the Lebanese Ambassador and affirmed that the Arab community in the United Kingdom views Arab countries as one homeland, and considers developments in each country a matter of concern for all Arabs in the diaspora, regardless of origin.
The Honorary President of the Arab Community Conference, lawyer Sabah Al-Mukhtar, spoke about decades of efforts aimed at unifying the Arab community, strengthening its cohesion, and transforming it into an influential bloc within British society, particularly in relation to preserving Arab identity among second-generation Arabs born in the diaspora.
The spokesperson for the Arab Community Conference, legal advisor Ali Al-Qaddoumi, called for building bridges of communication and cooperation between Arab embassies and the Arab community, in order to enhance services provided to Arabs living in the United Kingdom.
The Arab Community Conference was established in June 2023 as an initiative of the Arab London platform. It has conducted several important engagements, including correspondence with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and former Prime Minister Rishi Sunak regarding the Israeli war on Gaza.
The “Arab London” platform is considered the largest and most prominent Arabic-language platform serving the Arab community in the United Kingdom. Founded in 2018, it also organises several regular events, including the annual Palestinian Heritage Festival in London, which is regarded as the most significant event for the Palestinian community in the UK and brings together most Arab communities under one umbrella.
